Ruston High signed a deal Thursday with KRLQ 94.1 FM, which will now house Bearcat sports over the airwaves for the next two years and ending a longtime partnership with KXKZ 107.5 FM.
“At the end of our contract with KXKZ, we were approached by Brandon Forester with 94.1, and he laid out a plan for what he wanted to do for RHS and the community of Ruston,” Ruston High School Principal Dan Gressett said. “After much discussion between myself, (Bearcat Head Football Coach Jerrod) Baugh, and (Lincoln Parish School Board Superintendent Ricky) Durrett, we felt like it was time for us to make a change. This is strictly a business decision. We feel like making this move is in the best interests of Ruston High School.
“We appreciate everything KXKZ has done for RHS over the years. We have signed a two-year contract with 94.1, and we are looking forward to a great partnership and for great things to
come from that partnership.”
Forester, who is the owner and general manager of 94.1, stated how excited he was to now carry the broadcasts for his alma mater.
“As an alumnus of both Ruston High School and Louisiana Tech, my passion will always lie with the Bearcats and this community,” Forester said. “KRLQ 94.1’s goal, as a locally owned and operated radio station, was to upgrade the system digitally for the best listener experience possible. The Big Q looks forward to being the flagship station for everything Ruston High.
This includes Kyle Roberts and Nick Brown continuing their commentating on Bearcat football.”
Red Peach Radio General Manager Santoria Black said that despite KXKZ losing Ruston High football, the station will still hope for the school’s success.
“We are obviously very disappointed in the decision as we have been the voice of Ruston High School athletics for decades,” Black said. “We wish nothing but the best for Ruston High
School and will always be supporters of the Bearcats.”
The Bearcat Nation Network will still livestream all games excluding a potential appearance in the state championship at BearcatNationNetwork.com and on its Youtube channel.
